Time Capsule

We have enjoyed eighteen successful years, thanks to our innovative products and loyal customers. This page offers a brief look at the evolution of the Company.

Our founder with his first computer?

In the beginning...

The Company was founded in 1989. Our vision was to create a client facing organization that would offer products and services to the Data General User community.

Soon, UDC joined Data General's Value-Added Reseller program. This relationship led to significant growth, opening new markets for our early hardware and software offerings. Older Data General logo

Pinpoint Migration Services

During the nineties customers began looking for alternatives to proprietary, legacy systems. Data General Customers that had mature applications written in COBOL had some very difficult choices to make. Our Pinpoint service offered a complete migration to UNIX, with keystroke-for-keystroke compatibility. It was during this time that we began offering written, money-back guarantees for our work. We were involved in many software migration projects over the years and still perform the occasional DG port.

EZ/Mail Office Automation

One of our early successes came with Universal Data's EZ/Mail Office Automation Software. This was a character-based product that offered full-service e-mail, document management, calendar with appointment, and so on for the UNIX community. EZ/Mail sold in several countries around the globe and is still in use today. EZ/Fax, added paperless faxing to the software and is also used quite a bit to this day...

Once Upon a Time

Universal Data has a proud tradition of serving our clients over many years. Universal Data's Pinpoint Migration Services (Legacy COBOL conversion technology) was featured in Inc. Magazine.

DG/Focus Magazine

UDC made many appearances in Focus Magazine over the years. This was the magazine for the Data General User community and many of our early advertisements appeared within it's pages. We contributed a handful of articles and became the subject of one ourselves!
